During the recording of 'Eternal Egypt' there were long breaks in the process due to Hossam Ramzy (co-writer) being on a major world tour with Page and Plant (Led Zeppelin). While that was going on the idea for this album was formulated, in the end 'Pharaoh' was released first!
One of the main inspirations was the 'vocoder' sound I had been developing with Hossam, another was discovering the 'Saaidi' rhythm! Although 'Pharaoh' has a less 'Egyptian' sound than the albums recorded with Hossam Ramzy, it has a quality which I am particularly pleased with, it's almost as though it composed itself, and I was used only as a pair of hands!
